From the Office of the Mayor - Removal of RBC ATM

Office of the Mayor

As Mayor of the Town of Stewiacke I authorized a letter be sent August 30, 2021 to express the disappointment with the removal of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) by the RBC Royal Bank at 49 Riverside Avenue.

The removal of the ATM in the downtown area has caused a negative impact on our area residents, particularity the seniors, many who do not own a vehicle.

Initially the RBC merged the Stewiacke and Shubenacadie branches and the Stewiacke branch was opened 2 days per week. Next the RBC decided to close the Stewiacke branch completely and offered the ATM at 49 Riverside Avenue. Finally with no consultation with the Town Council and residents they opted to close the ATM @ 49 Riverside Avenue.

I have respectfully suggested this is not customer service. I stated it would be a positive community impact if the RBC returned the ATM for the benefit of our community. No reply has been received from the RBC.

Mr. Bogle our CAO has been reaching out to other banking providers to secure ATM service at this location.

I want everyone to know I have heard your concerns and fully appreciate the difficulties that this unfortunate action has caused.

George Lloy
