Public Notice - Japanese Knotweed Remediation
PUBLIC NOTICE
Japanese Knotweed Remediation
Residents and members of the public are advised that remediation work will be undertaken to address the presence of Japanese knotweed at/near 185 Kitchener Street, Stewiacke, NS.
The work is scheduled to take place from September 19th to September 20th, 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
During the remediation, contractors and equipment may be present, and temporary access restrictions will be in place to safely manage the treatment and prevent the spread of Japanese knotweed.
Important Safety and Access Information
- The area marked by flags (enclosed treatment zone) must not be entered for at least 12 hours following treatment, in accordance with the re-entry interval (REI).
- Please avoid the area within 1–2 metres of the flagged area for at least 2 hours following treatment to allow the treatment to fully dry.
- During application, please stay away from the treatment area and areas within direct line of sight of the flagged zone. Treatment is expected to take at least one hour.
- Keep children and pets away from the treatment area during application and throughout the drying and re-entry periods.
- If your property is close to the treatment area, please close windows, and doors during application and while the treatment is drying.
- Please do not enter, cut, dig, move, remove, or otherwise disturb the Japanese knotweed or treated area. The area is not intended for public access, and disturbing the plant can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment and contribute to its spread.
Japanese knotweed can spread readily from small fragments of its stems or roots. These precautions are intended to minimize public exposure to the pesticide and help ensure the remediation is effective.
The remediation is being carried out by Knotwood et al. in accordance with applicable requirements, licenses, and best management practices.
We appreciate the public's cooperation while this work is completed.
