The Enhanced Recycling Program Is Here Nova Scotia!!!
What’s changing?
✅ You’ll follow the same recycling rules no matter where you live in Nova Scotia.
✅ You can now recycle more materials than ever before — things like coffee cups, deodorant and toothpaste tubes, frozen juice cans, and even ice cream tubs! (Just make sure they’re empty before recycling — no need for a perfect clean.)
✅ Non-hazardous aerosols, styrofoam and flexible packaging (e.g. chip bags and candy wrappers) are now eligible to be dropped off at your local Enviro Depot https://www.circularmaterials.ca/NSdepots/
✅ Your local curbside service stays the same! We’ll still handle collection, missed pickup reports, and your recycling questions.

Clear Bags for Garbage Program

Since January 1st, 2012, residents, businesses, institutions, and apartments must use clear bags for garbage disposal. It is simple! The colour of your garbage bag changed from dark green or black to a clear, non-coloured bag. Each collection day, households are permitted to place one privacy (solid coloured) bag and up to five additional clear bags at the curb for collection. Blue bags are to be used for recyclables and the green cart for organics. All garbage delivered to the Balefill Facility in Kemptown MUST be in clear bags. This program has helped keep thousands of tonnes of valuable resources out of our landfill. Thank you for helping make a cleaner tomorrow for all of us!
